Founded in 1988 by Pastors Stephen and Nancy Boyce, New Life Worship Center began as a tiny storefront chapel located behind Little Rhody’s A&W Root Beer Restaurant on Route 44 in Smithfield, Rhode Island. Over the last two decades, it is largely evident that our Church history has been in step with the blessings of God. Under the dynamic leadership of just six adults, with their three children, New Life has since developed into a vibrant congregation.
To accommodate an increasing Christian community in the New England region, New Life has responded by expanding its facilities on several occasions. At the first storefront facility, the 800-square-foot building was zoned to allow a seating capacity of only 40 persons. In a few short months’ time, the congregation realized that a larger space was needed due to its well-attended services and ministry involvement, and just six months later, another expansion took place. In the fall of 1990, renovations began on a 9500-square-foot warehouse located on Lark Industrial Parkway in Smithfield, and in February of 1991, New Life was able to move into a new sanctuary.
God Is Faithful
In His faithfulness, God continues to grow New Life in miraculous ways:
- December 1993 – purchased 40 acres in Smithfield, RI located immediately off Interstate 295, minutes from Providence.
- April 1996 – ceremoniously broke ground with the majority of the work completed by the men and women of our church.
- June 1997 – the new state-of-the-art facility was completed and became our main church location for a number of years.
Today, we have 4 locations: Smithfield, RI, East Greenwich, RI, Fall River, MA and New Bedford, MA where people of all backgrounds and experiences have linked arms to build the local church, serve the community, and see themselves and their families transformed by God’s power and unconditional love.
New Life South Coast began as a campus of New Life Worship Center in January of 2014. Marco and Lindsey DeBarros were commissioned by the lead pastor of New Life Worship Center, Pastor Steve Boyce to New Bedford to begin this work. In just three years, it has grown from 35 people and one church service to a thriving community of 800 people and two Sunday morning services.
Pastor Marco and Lindsey DeBarros were originally the Youth Pastors of New Life Worship Center. They met at Eastern Nazarene College, where they felt called to plant a city church that would make a tangible difference in people's lives. Together, with their five children, the dream of this city church has become a reality.
Outside of Sunday morning services, the church is very involved in the community by offering monthly outreaches to local shelters, youth and elderly homes, street teams, and more. The goal is to love God and love people.
